It is the duty of the Tax Collector to issue all real estate tax statements  and to collect said taxes which are then turned over to the Township and School District every four (4) years. The Tax Collector is not responsible for the collection of the Earned Income Tax (wage tax). This tax is collected by  Central Tax Bureau of PA, Inc.

The principal sources of income for the Township are from the Real Estate Tax, the Earned Income Tax, the Deed Transfer Tax, and the Per Capita Tax.

The Real Estate Tax is derived by multiplying the assessed valuation of your property by the Real Estate Tax rate established annually by the Township. The assessed valuation is determined by Allegheny County.

Per Capita Tax
The per capita tax is a “head” tax for all residents residing in West Deer Township.  Central Tax Bureau of PA collects the amount of $15.00 yearly.
$10.00 is collected for the Deer Lakes School District and $5.00 is collected for the Township.

The Earned Income Tax is a levy of 1% on all salaries, wages, commission, bonuses, incentive payments, fees and net profits of businesses, professions and other activities. The Township and the School District each receive one-half ( 1/2) percent of this tax. These taxes are paid quarterly to the following agency:

Central Tax Bureau of Pa, Inc.
724-744-0104
www.centaxgroup.com

Once residency has been established in the Township, the above named agencies should be notified immediately so that your name may be added to the tax accounts. You will then be furnished the proper forms for filing returns. Everyone, regardless of whether he or she has income from any of the above sources, must file a return. Failure to do so may result in legal actions against you.

The Deed Transfer Tax is a tax of one and a half percent (1 1/2%) on every transactions conveying or transferring land or property in the Township.

The assessed valuation on real estate is determined by the Board of Property Assessment and Appeals of Allegheny County. Neither the Tax Collector nor the Township has anything to do with the determination of these valuations. The millage rate to be applied to these valuations is reviewed and determined by the Board each year at the time it considers the annual budget.
